While these are two of the most popular choices for a writing career, there are more paths to being a writer than publishing a best seller or writing a hard hitting news story. Consider this; everything that you have ever read has been written and then edited by someone.

This workshop builds on the writing mechanics of Business Writing Level I. Participants learn to use audience identification, concision, and channel selection to write effectively. Practical exercises include writing memos, e-mails, and letters. Academic writing is very close to business writing. They’re both focused on clarity, concision, and factual information. If you missed the basics, a reminder won’t do you any harm. In this practical hands-on course, you gain the skills to assess the needs of your users and create documents that explain technical information. You learn to assess your target audience and develop documents that meet their needs; choose the appropriate writing style to communicate to specialized audiences; and effectively employ diagrams, tables, charts and other graphical tools.

As an engineering student, writing isn't my best subject. To be honest, I suck at it. The author of this book however understands that. He's a college professor and has seen his share of poor writing and knows just what is ailing students.
